About the Festival:
The Volvo Scandinavian Film Festival presented by Palace offers a feast of the most exciting and fresh film from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and opens around the country from 5 July with Rune Denstad Langlo’s Welcome to Norway, an acerbic and insightful black comedy about an aspiring hotel owner who decides to turn his half-built alpine hotel near the Norwegian-Swedish border into a state-funded refugee asylum reception centre.
Other films to take special prominence in the 2016 festival program include writer/director Martin Zandvliet’s stunning, multi award-winning Land of Mine (Under Sandet) and 2016 Golden Globe Nominee – Best Foreign Language Film, The Fencer (Miekkailija). To celebrate the festival, one of Scandinavia’s most talented young actors, Jakob Oftebro will visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane with his two films Gold Coast (Guldkysten) and As It Is In Heaven 2 (Så ock på Jorden). Oftebro has appeared in over 20 films and his television work includes the BAFTA nominated Danish/Swedish TV series, The Bridge, as well as a featured role in the highly regarded 1864 by Ole Bornedal.
